Welcome to the Spring 2012 issue of Data Points, produced by Georgia Tech’s Institute for Data and High Performance Computing (IDH). In this issue read about the breadth and depth of activity that 23 Georgia Tech researchers brought to the technical program at the IEEE 26th International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS 2012); Georgia Tech Research Institute’s strategic focus on breaching the Big Data wall; newly formed HPC500 group of which Georgia Tech is a charter member; and research that garnered the Best Paper award at the SIAM International Conference on Data Mining.

IDH Director Richard Fujimoto also discusses key challenges in Big Data research and the need to bring together experts in different disciplines to tackle the Big Data problem.

A landscape of Big Data visualized.
